Hey Parents!
I have been waiting to write this email all week. I want to break the ice with letting you know that this email is about pornography. It’s about how pornography is poison, destroys families, destroys Gods plan for love and affection and destroys the ability of young men to view women the way God made them. This also destroys girls image of themselves because they are left thinking they need to be something that we know all know they don’t.

Here are some stats about Pornography. I know it might be hard to read these, or maybe shocking, but they are all true and there is a point to all this, so keep reading after the stats. (stats provided by XXXChurch.com)

Here are the 4 facts that i want you to walk away with.
– If you didn’t know there is a pornography and LUST problem and the epidemic is worldwide.
-No adults started when they were an adult, they started as a kid. I personally looked at pornography for the first time in Jr. High, I was at a friend’s house and his Dad had his stack for playboys laying out.
-Pornography has NEVER been more accessible. Due to the internet being on almost every device we have, we can look it up anywhere.
-We are not powerless. We are the parents and the pastors and the youth leaders. http://iupatdc5.org We are the good guys and we can take action. Even if it’s tough or unpopular to our kids,
we can take action and it will be the right thing to do. You can do this parents, you can put a foot down, be bold, have tough conversations and share a little more of a glimpse of who Jesus is to all of our students.

SO… What is the plan here? Why did I bring this up?
Well, technology is helping us in a big way right now and I wanted you all to know. It has to do with the new iOS7 from apple.
iOS 7 has a GREAT filtering content tool. The device now blocks specific contents that you can filter on your phone. It will cover any mobile app your running, any web browser your using (Safari, Google, Chrome). This filter will be a huge step in making sure our students are having accountability and being protected. There is no reason that every student should not have this on their phone. This is how you do it.

On iOS 7 devices click on…
Settings > General > Restrictions > Websites > Limit Adult Content. THEN you as the PARENT enter the pass code so they can’t turn it off.
This is good for iphones, itouch, ipad, ipad mini.
My wife set mine, not because I look at pornography, but because there is no reason not to do it, it’s easy, free, and it protects you in those moments that Satan will try his hardest to bring your down.
Last word… DON’T just take their phone and do it, use this as a Deuteronomy 6 moment where you as the parent can teach them and lead them in the ways of Jesus. Want to score huge points and really be taken seriously? You activate this on your phones parents and let YOUR KIDS set the pass code. Imagine those conversations Moms and Dads! Imagine what it would look like to have it spread that parents are taking this conversation head on and leading by example.

If you have any questions about this just email me, I’ll answer every email I get.
Sincerely,

Justin Herman
