Leading with a co-leader

Small groups are not meant to be done alone. They are strong with 2 voices giving the same message, 2 leaders who care about students in authentic ways. Sharing the weight, sharing the union of different perspectives.

Here are 3 very simple ideas to lead well with a co-leader.

Communicate :

Communicate, and communicate! Have contact with your co-leader once a week (face-to-face, over the phone, or e-mail, before group, after group, some other time during the week). Discuss how your last group went, what you liked, what you would have changed etc., and make a plan for next week. Make the meeting time consistent so you both always know what is going on.

Switch discussion leaders :

Each week or series tradeoff who is the main leader, you both will always be involved in the discussion; just one of you will plan out the lesson and take the reins on where it is going. This will give you both some time to really own what your all teaching, and time to rest up.

Pray :

Pray together and often! Pray for your students individually, your group as a whole, and each other. Make time for this, don’t let it be that thing that you assume gets done, more sure its a thing that gets done. Meet early, stay a few minutes late, meet for coffee every other week, just make sure it happens.
